Alternative Dispute Resolution

Over my career, both as a litigator and as in house counsel for some of Canada’s largest energy companies, I have dealt with hundreds of litigation matters and played an integral role in their resolution through negotiated settlements, litigation and arbitration.

I have had the benefit of participating in many material arbitrations. I am a proponent of arbitration because the parties are able to streamline the dispute resolution process to focus on the matters that are actually at issue. Compared to litigation through the courts, the arbitration process not only leads to an expedited final resolution of the issues, it also reduces the cost of litigation for the parties involved. 

I have also occupied senior roles in organizations and have had the responsibility for the internal reporting of litigation matters. This helped me understand what is important to senior management in large companies; namely commercial certainty in disputes and reduction of overall litigation costs.  The arbitration process effectively addresses both of these issues.

My commitment, as an arbitrator, is to provide unbiased and rationalized arbitration awards in a prompt and cost-effective manner.
